Joining Union City and Fort LeBeouf today on Union City's campus was a fantastic experience for our school. Our students had a blast participating in various activities and stations while walking the track. Thankfully, the rain held off, which delighted everyone. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our staff for making this event a success, and a big thank you to our bus and van drivers for ensuring safe and smooth transportation to and from Union City. Mrs. Nuhfer and Mr. Lander took five students from CAIS to Union City so they could join other districts on TV with Erie News Now. They did an outstanding job representing our school, and I think many of them are exhausted from the day’s excitement and fun. Everyone had a great time for a good cause!

We are pleased to invite you and your family to participate in our district-wide Mental Health Awareness Day on May 17, 2024. This day represents a collaborative effort among our schools and community to prioritize mental well-being and remove the stigma associated with mental health. Please note, the activities planned for the daytime of Mental Health Awareness Day are designed specifically for student participation. We greatly value our community's support, and we ask parents and family members to join us for the evening events starting at 5:00 PM, which include community activities, food trucks, and performances. Our event will feature Tyler McClain, a CASD graduate who sets the stage with his musical talents before Chris Higbee performs in the evening. The students at CAIS couldn't contain their laughter today as they witnessed our staff fully embracing the Rock the PSSA theme! Huge thanks to Gary Johnston, whose incredible guitar skills and Elvis tunes serenaded everyone entering the building. Needless to say, our students were absolutely thrilled by the performance!

The solar eclipse this week was truly remarkable! We're grateful to our local universities for providing safety glasses for our students. A big thank you to all our teachers who integrated eclipse lessons into both science and art classes. Mrs. Slocum's class explored the phases of the moon. One student held a flashlight as the "sun," while another held a ball on a skewer as the "moon." As they moved, the moon showed its phases. Students enjoyed this out of the world experiment!

At CAIS, we recently had the honor of hosting David Gorman, the author of the Waldameer Mystery Files series. Gorman's visit was a day of inspiration, as students embarked on a journey through the creative process of storytelling and discussed the intriguing history of Waldameer. The highlight was a lunch where lucky students gained invaluable insights and advice directly from the author himself. Gorman's passion for literature and storytelling ignited a renewed enthusiasm for reading and writing among our students and families. We are grateful for this enriching experience!
