VFW Awards 6 Social Studies Students Scholarships For Voices of Democracy and Patriot Pen Essay Contest

Corry students Parker Trask, Olivia Gilliland, and Alex Schmidt were honored at a dinner at the VFW for winning the Post's annual Voices of Democracy Essay contest for high school students.  Trask took 1st place, with Gilliland 2nd,and Alex Schmidt in 3rd place.  At the dinner, VFW Post #264 commander James Thomas presented the winners with a certificate and their cash awards.  Principal Andrew Passinger stated afterwards: "First of all, I am thankful for the veterans in our community, their years of service and sacrifice to and for our country, and their dedication to passing on history to our students. I am especially grateful for their interests and advocacy in involving our students in their Veterans of Foreign Affairs writing contests every year. It gives our students a chance to focus on America's rich history and an opportunity to collaborate with other generations.".  The Patriot Pen middle school winners were Cora Kent, Layla Mosher, and Jordan Nutt who were also presented a certificate and a cash award for their essays.
