Second Graders Share Stories with Kindergarten Students

Second-grade students recently had the opportunity to share their stories with kindergarteners in a heartwarming event made possible by second-grade teachers Ms. Roche, Mrs. Brundage, and Mrs. Munn.  The second graders proudly read aloud to their younger peers, kindergarteners in Mrs. Mosher's class and Mrs. Newton's class.  They listened attentively and respectfully, creating a positive and engaging atmosphere.   Led by Mrs. Yatsko, this was a wonderful reminder of the strong sense of community within the school and the positive impact of collaborative efforts between teachers and students.

National Honor Society Students Spread Holiday Cheer by Helping Kindergarteners Write Letters to Santa

Members of the National Honor Society (NHS) at Corry High School visited the kindergarten classes at Corry Primary to help the young students write their letters to Santa. The high school students worked closely with the kindergartners, guiding them as they expressed their holiday wishes and fostering a sense of excitement and joy. For the NHS members, the event was a meaningful opportunity to practice service, leadership, and kindness, while for the kindergartners, it was a memorable experience that connected them with older peers. The visit highlighted the magic of the season and reinforced the importance of giving back to the community.

CAPS Fall Fest: Celebrating Positive Behavior and Community Support

CAPS recently came together for a memorable Fall Fest Party, a special celebration recognizing students for their positive behavior. The event was filled with laughter and excitement as students enjoyed a variety of activities. The hayrides, made possible through the generosity of our local farmer and neighbor Len Baker, with support from School Board Member Jason Halfast, allowed everyone to take in the beauty of autumn. The obstacle course in the gym challenged students to test their agility and speed, and students enjoyed creative face painting and pumpkin decorating, thanks to pumpkins donated by Munsee's Market.

Adding to the festive atmosphere were delicious donuts and refreshing cider, provided by Sander's Market, which helped make this celebration even sweeter. The Fall Fest Party was not just about fun; it highlighted the importance of good conduct and celebrated our community partnerships that enrich the lives of our students.

The event was a resounding success, and we are deeply grateful to our local partners for their support in making this a day to remember. We look forward to more celebrations that strengthen our sense of community and school spirit!

CAPS Family Involvement Night

Title 1 hosted another successful Family Involvement Night!  Family Involvement Night is a dynamic event designed to enhance literacy by engaging students, parents, and educators in collaborative activities.  With over 416 participants this year, families participated in interactive literacy stations, enjoyed storytime sessions, and heard about the importance of reading.  Family Involvement Night not only motivated students but also cultivated a culture of reading, demonstrating that literacy is a shared journey best undertaken together.

Sparking Curiosity: Fire Department Visits Kindergarten

Corry Fire Department visited CAPS kindergarten to educate young students about fire safety, creating an atmosphere of excitement and curiosity. Firefighters engaged the children with a lively presentation covering essential topics like smoke alarms and emergency plans. The highlight of the visit was allowing the kids to explore the fire trucks and spray water from the fire hose. This hands-on experience not only taught important safety lessons but also inspired the children to appreciate the role of firefighters in their community, fostering a sense of safety and connection between local heroes and the next generation.

Pre-Writing Skills in Pre-K

Meet Mat Man!
Before children start writing, there are important concepts that need to be mastered to make writing easier for the children to learn.  These early concepts, or readiness skills, include size recognition, placement, and sequence skills. Pre-K uses Mat Man to teach these skills and simultaneously promote body awareness, socializing, and sharing.  Made from wood pieces, Mat Man is also a great way to teach children how to draw a person.
